On Sept. 14, the St. Paul Police identified the teen that robbed and assaulted an elderly man in St. Paul, Minneapolis on Sept. 11, TwinCities.com reported.

People gave them tips after the police released surveillance footage of the assault.

The police said on Sept. 14, that they believe they have identified him through tips provided by the public.

Steve Linders, a St. Paul police spokesman, said that the police were called around 5 p.m. on Sept. 11, and went to the area of Farrington Street and Lawson Avenue, TwinCities.com reported.

A juvenile had reported that a “juvenile male followed grandpa and assaulted him” and escaped on an electric scooter, said Linders.

After the attack, Patrick Tobin, 77, was left on the ground bleeding from his right eyebrow and knee. Linders said that he refused medical attention and told the officers that he would go to the hospital later.

According to Linders, Tobin told the officers that he parked his car in front of his house. While walking up to the house, someone came from behind, struck him, reached in his pocket, and stole his wallet.

A phone alerted Aaron Jacobs that his surveillance camera detected movement in the driveway while he was working on a painting job, CBS reported.

Aaron saw someone in an orange hoodie following Tobin home. Tobin usually looks after his granddaughter, Alena Jacobs, until her father, Aaron, comes home.

“I don’t usually look at it, but at this time I swiped the screen and opened it up,” Aaron said. “and I witnessed live what happened.”

Aaron said Tobin hit his head on the ground and splattered blood on the driveway.

Meanwhile, 10-year-old Alena and her friend witnessed the attack, CBS reported.

“It was scary when we seen him like get like pulled down and then his screams was like really sad,” Alena said.

“She was crying and hiding in our closet with a steak knife,” Aaron said.

Alena called 911, but ended the call when the dispatcher told her that her grandfather had already called for help.

This experience left Aaron a difficult parenting challenge; explaining that the dangers of the world in real life can happen right at your doorstep.

“It’s traumatizing. What do you tell your daughter when something like this happens right outside your back door?” Aaron said. “You have go into the explanation of, ‘There’s people in this world that aren’t nice,’ and it’s pretty tough to explain to a 10-year-old,” CBS reported.

Aaron said Tobin suffered from a chipped tooth and needed stitches for the cut on his head.

“I hope they throw the book at this guy. I hope they catch him. Can’t miss him, bright orange sweatshirt, bright orange shoes,” Aaron said.

Now that the police have identified the suspect from one of the tips given, the investigation continues for the arrest of the teen.

The suspect is described to be 5-feet-8-inches tall with a thin build, orange shirt, bright shoes (likely to be orange) and anyone with information on him should contact St. Paul police, 911 with emergencies or 651-291-1111 for non-emergencies.
