LONDON—UK police have named the suspect in a double murder as the former partner of the woman stabbed to death on the street with her mother in the early hours of Monday morning in the West Midlands.

West Midlands police directly appealed to Janbaz Tarin to turn himself in, saying that”huge efforts” were underway to locate him.

Tarin, 21, is being sought over the killings Raneem Oudeh, and her mother, Khaola Saleem, both found dead outside of Saleem’s house with serious stab wounds at 12.30am on Monday, Aug. 27.

Police on Monday said that they believed the murderers was known to the victims, appealing to them to come forward.

Later, authorities released Tarin’s name and photograph, hoping to enlist the help of the public after initial attempts to locate him failed.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, leading the investigation, said, “We’ve been working flat out to apprehend Tarin since the early hours of this morning, following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“If anyone knows where he is or thinks they may have seen him, I’d urge them to ring 999 immediately,” she said in a statement.

“If there’s anyone out there who may be shielding him through a sense of misguided loyalty, they need to be aware that they are committing an offence and will be prosecuted. My message to Tarin would be that it’s vitally important that we get to speak to you as soon as possible, so please do the right thing and let us know where you are,” she said.

Police said that the public should not approach Tarin if they spot him.

‘Screaming Her Head Off’

Emergency services were called to Northdown Road in Solihull, Northdown Road where they found the women, aged 22 and 49, in the street with serious stab wounds.

“Tragically there was nothing which could be done to save them,” said Corfield.

The two were declared dead at the scene.

The Daily Mail quoted one neighbor saying that she heard screaming late on Sunday, Aug. 26.

The woman said, “I thought it was foxes screaming. She was absolutely screaming her head off. He wasn’t speaking English, that’s for sure. He shouted something and then ran off. There was a lot of screaming and shouting and then I saw the guy run off. About a minute later I saw him leave in a van.”

Another man living near the property told the BBC that he too had heard screaming, but assumed it was people returning from a night out.

He said, “Then police knocked on my door and asked for some towels, so I knew at that point it was serious. I’ve got a young family, so I was worried about what was going on.”

Police said they were speaking to people who live nearby and that there would be a “visible presence in the area over the coming days to provide community reassurance.”

The victims’ family said in a statement, “Our family is devastated with the loss of our loved ones. We would like to give thanks for all the love and support we have received.  We kindly request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
