A Baltimore police officer was shot in the hand during a struggle with a suspect who was “acting suspiciously and showing characteristics of a person armed with a gun.”

Two police officers approached the suspect on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The dramatic moment is captured in a body cam video released by the Baltimore police.

The video shows an officer shining a flashlight on the suspect saying, “Show me your hands,” “Show me your hands.”

As the officers approach the suspect and tried to get hold of the gun, he fights back.

In the video, the officer can be heard asking, “You got a gun on you, man?”

As the suspect appears to reach for a gun, the officer says, “Don’t reach for anything.”

The officers struggle with the suspect, and a round of shots can be heard. One of the officers was shot in the hand.

The second officer then managed to use his stun gun to subdue the suspect, handcuff him, and retrieve his gun.

The suspect has been identified as Allen Hosea Johnson Jr. and has been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm, felony assault second-degree of a law enforcement officer according to ABC. He has also been charged with other firearm and drug-related charges.

The officer who was shot was taken to Shock Trauma for a nonlife-threatening injury and Commissioner Kevin Davis said the officer was in good spirits and will be fine, ABC reported.

“Lord only knows what his intention was with that firearm,” Davis told the Daily Mail. “Thank God we’re not talking about planning another police funeral.”

The shooting took place a few hours after the funeral of Baltimore Homicide Detective Sean Suiter, who died in November after being shot in the head while investigating a murder.

Suiter died on Thursday, Nov. 16. in the hospital surrounded by his family. The father of two had served in the police department for 18 years.
