A Truckee, California, police officer reunited a mother bear with her cub after it got stuck in a dumpster, Friday Nov. 19.

The duo were rummaging through a dumpster when the lid fell, trapping the bear cub inside.

Citizens saw the mother bear working away at the dumpster, trying to free the cub, and called the police.

The Truckee Police shared a video, showing an officer climbing onto a container next to the dumpster.

The officer calls out “Remember, I’m a friend,” before lifting up the lid, while the mama bear watches from the hill.

Once the heavy dumpster lid is opened, the bear cub scrambles out, clambering up the rocks back to the waiting mama bear.

Onlookers cheer, causing the cub to pause midway up.

Once at the top, the cub bounds after mama bear, that’s already vanished into the forest.

In a Facebook post, the Truckee police used the video to remind locals to lock their dumpsters, stating, “Help keep our bears wild!”
