Pittsburgh police responded to an “active shooting situation” in the Garfield neighborhood on Wednesday, according to a bulletin.

A post made by the Pittsburgh Public Safety said that “this is an extremely active situation with shots continuing to be fired. Please avoid the area at this time.”

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to evict a person who then “opened fire on deputies,” said spokesman Mike Manko, according to CNN. “At this point there is only one suspect,” Mr. Manko added.

Other details were not released by authorities. Local media reported that roads in the area were shut down while officials arrived at the scene and that shots were still being fired.

“I’ve never heard bullets like this,” a neighbor who lives near the scene told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Something you’d see in a movie.”

It’s not clear if any injuries or deaths have been reported.

“In the beginning, all we heard was the cops,” witness Chris Wilkinson told a CBS affiliate station. “They were banging on the door where the shooting takes place. They were banging on it telling him they were there. And after a couple of minutes of them doing it, they started to kick down the door, but after a few tries they couldn’t do it. Then, they got a sledgehammer and took down the door, and after that shots started to be fired. I’ve been really nervous and it’s really sad what’s happening. You think you can be safe here but you can’t with what’s happening.”

The shooting is also taking place near St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery and the UPMC Children’s Hospital. There were also reports that the SWAT team was also called to the scene.
