Missing Ohio infant Kason Thomass was discovered seemingly by chance on Dec. 22.

Thomass and his twin brother Kyair were abducted in a black Honda Accord in Columbus, Ohio, on the night of Dec. 19, about 175 miles away from where he was found, according to police.

After Kyair had been found at the Dayton Ohio airport, police went searching for Kason without success. When they stopped to have a meal, they accidentally found him.

“It was time for us to decompress because we were disappointed that we could not find him,” Sgt. Shawn Anderson of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department told WISH-TV.

“And then God opened up the heavens to us and almost took him and put him right in our hands.”

Anderson and Sgt. Richard El found the stolen car at a Papa John’s pizza restaurant at the plaza they had stopped for a meal in Indianapolis. Inside the car, they found Kason, likely left alone for days but still breathing and moving.

“When we found him, he was cold, right, but he was awake, he was breathing, he was moving around a little bit,” El said in an interview with WBNS-TV.

“His eyes were open wide and just trying to take everything in.”

“Holding him was one of the best feelings I’ve had in my career,” Sgt. Anderson said.

LaFonda Thomass, the twins’ grandmother, said she was overwhelmed by the discovery.

“This is going to be the best Christmas ever,” she told WBNS-TV. “I’m so excited. It is a miracle.”

Nalah Jackson, 24, the suspect in the case, was arrested the same day in Indianapolis, after people who learned about the kidnapping spotted her.

She was awaiting extradition to Columbus, where she faces two felony counts of kidnapping.

Jackson allegedly stole the 2010 black Honda Accord with Thomass and his twin brother inside.

The mother of the twins had parked the car outside a pizza restaurant and went in while working as a Door Dash worker, leaving the car open with the engine running and the twins inside, according to police and news reports.

Jackson went outside the pizza house when the mother of the twins went in, according to the New York Post. When the mother of the twins returned her car was gone.

Jackson was described by police as a homeless woman from Columbus, Ohio, according to NBC News.

“We are grateful to the public for their help throughout this investigation, and for the tireless work of our officers and our many partner agencies,” police said on Dec. 22.

“They never stopped, never gave up hope, and would not rest until Kason was found. We are beyond thankful for their relentless dedication.”
