Former President Donald Trump has stated that he favors leaving the question of abortion access to the states. “You must follow your heart on this issue, but remember, you must also win elections to restore our culture and, in fact, to save our country,” President Trump said.
In light of this, Shawn Carney, the president and CEO of 40 Days for Life, told NTD that he considers President Trump’s statement a smart move, and that political realism appears to be a major motivating factor behind his position. “This is a way better move than his 15-week abortion ban, which no pro-life person that I know supported,” said Mr. Carney. “The worst thing that he could have done was a 15-week ban. But we know whether he does a 15-week ban, a 39-week ban, a 6-week ban: He’s not going to win over any Democrats or abortion supporters based on this issue.”
