In an exclusive interview with the Epoch Times’ American Thought Leaders, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says President Donald Trump helped change the world’s view of the Chinese Communist Party, and there’s no going back.
Pompeo has described the Trump administration’s China policy as “Distrust and verify,” compared to Ronald Reagan’s Soviet Union policy of ‘trust but verify.”
He said President Donald Trump understood the failure of the 50 years’ engagement policy from the outset. His administration fundamentally changed the American stance on China.
He said: “President Trump recognized that when he began his campaign and then when he took office. We’ve now changed fundamentally how I think the West looks at China, not just the United States. Even when you look at Europe, Australia, and South East Asia, they know too. They know that the Chinese Communist Party is up to no good.”
