The pair met at Rome’s Quirinale Palace.
Early in the day the president met with Pope Francis. Later he will meet with Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. The president has the G-7 summit in Sicily scheduled for Friday, May 26.
Trump is on his first overseas trip, a nine-day journey through the Middle East and Europe.
