President Trump and GOP lawmakers discuss health care

President Trump met with congressional GOP leaders about health care and tax reform on June 6.

Senate Republicans are still in the process of drafting up a health care bill. They said they are close to a consensus.

At the meeting, the leaders discussed how to move forward with it.

The president praised the House for passing its own health care bill. He encouraged the Senate to do the same.

“The Senate I’m sure will follow suit and get a bill across the finish line this summer that will be great health care for Americans. And I’m looking forward to seeing it, so looking forward to seeing it,” said the president.

“We’re working very hard on massive tax cuts and we’re working very, very hard on the health care. And I think we’re going to have some very pleasant surprises for a lot of people,” he said.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters afterward that they’re getting close to having a proposal to take to the floor.

The senators are expected to vote on the bill by the Fourth of July.
