President Donald Trump announced his plan for a new permitting process for infrastructure projects at a speech at the Department of Transportation on June 9.
“For too long America has poured trillions and trillions of dollars into rebuilding foreign countries, while allowing our own country to fall into a state of total disrepair,” he said.
The president said excess regulation prevented the United States from maintaining itself. His plan is to create a council, which would help guide project managers through the permitting process, and a new, one-step, yes-or-no decision which could be delivered quickly.
This new council would penalize federal agencies that obstructed progress or slowed the process.
