President Trump used his weekly radio address on March 31 to praised Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

Trump said Gorsuch was “incredibly qualified” and had a “sterling record.”

Trump criticized activist judges, saying they “damage democracy.”

“The duty of judges,” he said, “is not to rewrite the laws, but to uphold the laws, and to apply the Constitution as written.”

“With Judge Gorsuch on the Supreme Court, America will be a more free, fair, and just nation,” Trump concluded.

Democrats in the Senate are trying to raise enough votes to block Gorsuch’s nomination, but do not have enough votes yet.

If confirmed, Gorsuch would fill the seat left vacant by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016. The seat was left vacant through the final year of Obama’s presidency.
