President Donald Trump spoke out for veterans on July 1 at an event at Kennedy Center.
The president also spoke of families, freedom, and God. And he spoke indirectly about his recent partially reinstated travel ban.
“Tonight we celebrate veterans and we also reflect on everything we cherish as Americans,” the president began. “We love our countries, we love our families, we love our freedom, and we love our God.”
The president commented on press coverage. He then discussed religious freedom and terrorism and immigration.
He named Islamist terrorism and extremism as one of the “most grave and dire threats to religious freedom in the world today.”
America must not offer sanctuary to terrorists, the president said, referring to his recently passed legislation denying federal funds to so-called sanctuary cities, which choose not to enforce immigration laws.
He said America must insist that people who enter this country share the values of America.
“We want to make sure that anyone who seeks to join our country, shares our values, and has the capacity to love our people,” he stated.
The president will spend the holiday at home in New Jersey.
