President Trump promises ‘new era of prosperity in America’ in weekly address

President Trump highlighted several themes in his weekly address on May 5, ranging from health care to tax reform to trade deals. All together, he said, his administration’s plans would bring a “new era of prosperity to America.”

The president started by explaining that the American Health Care Act would bring more freedom and more choices to American families.

Premiums would come down, he promised, and deductibles would fall and Americans would have “better health care at a lower cost.”

Trump then spoke of his recent tax reform plan, for both citizens and businesses. He called his tax reform plan “the single largest tax cut in American history” and said it would bring relief particularly to “low- and middle-income parents raising children.”

He also pledged to bring the business tax to 15 percent.

“We want to turn out country into a jobs machine, a jobs magnet, something that really works again,” he stated.

Along with lowering the tax rates, Trump said he would make the tax code simple so people would find it easier to file. No longer would the tax system work only for people who could afford  “an army of lawyers,” he said.

He also promised to eliminate tax breaks that benefited only the wealthy.

The president said that tax reform, regulatory relief, and improved trade deals would “usher in a new era of prosperity in America and bring wealth hope and opportunity to those communities that need it the most.”
