President Trump revives decades-old National Space Council

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to revive the National Space Council, which hasn’t been active since 1993.

“We are a nation of pioneers and the next great frontier is space. And we never completed, we started but we never completed, we stopped. But now we start again,” Trump said at the signing.

The council is meant to cement the U.S. as the world’s leader in space initiatives.

Our journey into space will not only make us stronger and more prosperous but will unite us behind grand ambitions and bring us all closer together,” Trump said. “Every launch into the skies is another step forward into the future where our differences seem small against the vast expanse of our common humanity.”

The council will be led by Vice President Mike Pence, and will include the heads of several government agencies. The program will also draw on the insights of scientists and business leaders.
