U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday (March 18) touted the half million new jobs he said were added during his administration, saying that the days of “economic surrender” in the United States were over.
“For too long, special interests have made money shipping jobs overseas. We need a new economic model—let’s call it the American Model,” Trump said during his weekly address to the American people.
Trump’s pledge to boost economic growth and employment has been embraced by Americans, leading to a jump in consumer sentiment. In a report on March 17, the University of Michigan said its consumer sentiment index had risen 1.3 percentage points to a reading of 97.6 in early March.
