President Trump talks about Congress shooting

President Donald Trump addressed the media about the early morning shooting on June 14.

“As you all know, shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning, a gunman opened fire on members of Congress and their staffs as they were practicing for tomorrow’s annual charity baseball game,” the president began.

“Authorities are continuing to investigate the crime, and the assailant has now died from his injuries. The FBI is leading the investigation and will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available,” he said.

The president praised the two police officers, Capitol Police Special Agents David Baily and Krystal Griner, who apprehended the gunman. Both were shot yet pressed on to stop the shooter. Both officer are expected to recover fully.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House whip, was wounded in the leg or hip. One of the other representatives had experience as a medic in Iraq, and provided first aid. Scalise’s condition is stable.

Two staffers, Zachary Barth and Matt Mica were wounded. Barth is expected to recover. There is no news yet on Matt Mica.

The shooter, 66-year-old James Hodgkinson from Belleville, Illinois, was himself fatally shot.
