President Donald Trump welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the White House Friday, March 17.

The leaders of the Western world’s most influential counties met face to face for the first time in Washington today. The White House said the agenda includes discussions on strengthening NATO, fighting the ISIS and resolving Ukraine’s conflict.

All are matters that require close cooperation between the United States and Germany.

The meeting is a chance for the two to build a relationship after Trump made critical remarks about Merkel in 2016, especially regarding her decision to allow an influx of refugees from Syria into Germany.
