Amid war abroad and a rise in anti-Semitism in the United States, many American Jews are reportedly reluctant to celebrate Hanukkah in an open manner, such as by placing menorahs in their windows.

NTD spoke to Rabbi Yaakov Menken, the managing director of the Coalition for Jewish Values, who says this reflects poorly on the United States.

“Did America ever imagine that it would be a place where people would feel so persecuted?” he asked. “Where people are afraid to advertise their Jewish identity?”

“It means America is turning away from the values that made America a great country to begin with,” Rabbi Menken said.
