Recall Alert: Ready-to-Eat Chicken Salad Products

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall by Caito Foods LLC. in Indianapolis, Indiana, of 1,767 pounds of chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.

The recall comes just days after two other similar recalls were issued on salads that contain meat, also due to undeclared allergens.

The chicken salad products contain soy that was not declared on the product labels.

The recalled products have the establishment number “P-39985” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations under Kroger in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio, according to an announcement from the FSIS.

The FSIS is worried that these products may be sitting in people’s refrigerators. The FSIS said on May 17 that people should not consume them and instead throw them out or return them to where they were purchased.

The salads were packed on May 12 through May 15 this year.

Labels of the products are as below:

  • 13.5-oz. plastic square bowl packages containing “Greek Salad with Chicken with Chicken Breast & Red Wine Olive Oil Vinaigrette Dressing” and sell by dates ranging from 05/18/19 through 05/21/19 represented on the label.

The issue was discovered during label verification activities carried out by the recalling firm.

So far, no reports have been confirmed for any adverse reactions due to consuming the products, although anyone who is concerned should contact a doctor.

The recall has been categorized as “Class I” by the USDA, which means that there is a “reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
