It seems odd, but it is happening, and with increasing frequency.

Migrant families are leaving the United States and crossing the Canadian border, knowing they will be immediately arrested.

The Canadian Border Agency reports a sixfold increase in migrants from the United States seeking asylum along the Quebec border in February 2017 compared to February 2016.

Since President Donald Trump has insisted on crackdowns on illegal migrants, many see their chances for a good life better in Canada.

In America most people think of Mexicans when one mentions “migrants.” In fact, many migrants in the United States are from Middle Eastern nations where war and violence make life impossible.

If they get stuck in America with expired visas, they face deportation or flight to asylum in Canada.
