Released girls kidnapped from Chibok reunited with families

The 82 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 and released in a prisoner swap are finally back with their families.

The reunions prompted a celebration in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

“I feel very excited, very happy. I cannot overemphasize how I feel,” said the father of one of the released girls.

Even in his great joy, he did not forget the remaining kidnapped girls.

“I’m pleading to the federal government to try and rescue some of the girls who are still in captivity, please and please,” he said.

Boko Haram Islamic terrorists kidnapped more than 250 girls from a school in Chibok, Nigeria, in 2014.

These 82 were swapped for three Boko Haram prisoners.

The government continues to work to rescue the rest.

The government is doing everything that is possible to intensify negotiations particularly for the release of the remaining, a total of 106 thus far,” said Bidemi Aremu, director at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

“We believe that others will also come to join in due course,” she said.
