Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) called out University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill for regulating “speech that it doesn’t like,” and alleged that at the same time, the UPenn campus is a hotbed of anti-Semitism and its expression. He made his comments at a Tuesday House Education Committee hearing in Washington on the topic of “Holding Campus Leaders Accountable And Confronting Anti-Semitism.”
During his questioning, Rep. Banks focused on an event Ms. Magill allowed at the college shortly before the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The event featured what the Congressman called anti-Semitic speakers, although the university had previously denied a platform to speakers with conservative-leaning political opinions, he said.
