Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who started a round of national anthem protests last year, said that he wants to play for an NFL team again.
Kaepernick, a free agent who hasn’t been able to land a job, told a CBS Sports reporter—off the record—that he will stand for the national anthem after famously sitting then kneeling during it.
The 29-year-old began kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner” last year to protest police brutality against minorities, and players this season have followed his lead.
“He’s not planning on kneeling,” said CBS reporter Jason La Canfora, who spent time with Kaepernick over the weekend. “He’s going to donate all his jersey sales. He’s planning on standing for the anthem—if given the opportunity.”

The quarterback has been getting up at 4 a.m. every day to throw “a hundred passes a day” during practice in New Jersey, La Canfora added.
“He’s just looking for an opportunity,” said La Canfora. “He understands that there’s controversy and things that come with him, but as a football player, he’s hoping to be judged in that manner.”
