Amid one of China’s strictest-ever lockdown policies, a man in the city of Xi’an was forced to confess on camera. His crime? Sneaking out to buy food for his family.
As part of Beijing’s “zero COVID” policy, residents in Xi’an are banned from leaving their homes, even to buy groceries, amid a recent pandemic surge there.
In the video, a community service volunteer first introduced himself. Then, gesturing to a man standing behind him, the volunteer accused him of escaping quarantine. He went on to call the man’s purpose for violating the ban unclear.
