‘Resident Pass’ Permit Takes Effect in Chinese City

The Southern Chinese city of Shenzhen is adding a new tool to its pandemic control arsenal.

Printed on a tiny piece of paper—it’s a permit that allows citizens to enter and exit their communities.

Called “Resident Passes,” it’s made up of three pieces, marked numbers 1 to 3—meaning there are 3 pieces per household.

Besides the permit itself, there’s a new list of rules that go along with it.
