Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen will arrive in New York on Wednesday tonight. Beijing warned her that it will “resolutely hit back” if she should go ahead and meet U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). But Tsai says external pressure will not stop Taiwan from engaging with the world. What’s the significance of this visit? NTD spoke to Riley Walters, a senior fellow at the Global Taiwan Institute and the deputy director of the Hudson Institute Japan Chair, for his analysis.
