Marilyn Manson was forced to cancel the next nine dates of his U.S. tour after being crushed by a stage prop during a performance on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The prop–that featured two massive pistols–suddenly fell on the rock star during his performance of his song “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These),” a cover of the Eurythmics’ 1983 track, in New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

Online videos show the giant prop falling on the star, then staff and band members rushing to pick up the prop. He was then taken to hospital on a stretcher.

“On Saturday night, the legendary performer suffered an injury on stage towards the end of his set at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom causing him to cut the show short. He was treated for the injury at a local hospital and will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles,” the singer’s spokesperson said in a statement, per Rolling Stone.

The spokesperson added, “The shows from Boston, October 2 through Houston, October 14 will be rescheduled for a later date. Manson hopes to return to the stage soon, more details on upcoming shows to follow.”

The 48-year-old rocker reportedly lay on the floor for several minutes before he was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital.

An eyewitness, Anthony Biscardi told the BBC that fans at the concert were “instantly freaked out”.

“Towards the middle of the song it seemed as though he tried climbing onto a prop. The first touch of weight on those poles and it came crashing down onto him,” he said.

“He was pretty limp, almost as though he was unconscious,” he added.

Tyler Bates, Manson’s guitarist posted on Instagram on Sunday morning saying the Upside Down Tour “is on pause” and that “Manson will be back in action soon.”

Several videos online show the moment the prop fell on Manson. “I hope Marilyn Manson is okay, look at this!” said one fan.
