Russia Attacks While Security Council Debates

Early Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin came on state TV to justify the invasion of Ukraine. He said Russia has been left with no choice but to eliminate what he called a serious threat, saying his aim was to demilitarise its southern neighbour. Almost at the same time in New York, U.N. Security Council members urging Putin not to attack were caught by surprise.
