Russia Suspends Its Participation START Treaty, Arms Control and Risk Reduction: A Brookings Event

Live Chat

Russia is suspending its participation in the START treaty, the only nuclear arms control agreement remaining between the United States and the Russian Federation. This move diminishes the treaty and increases the risk of an accelerated power nuclear arms competition. President Joe Biden called it a “big mistake.”

Mr. Mallory Stewart, assistant secretary for arms control, verification, and compliance at the U.S. Department of State, will talk about prospects for arms control and risk reduction in the current moment at 10:30 a.m. ET on Feb. 27 in an event held by the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy, and Technology, Brookings Institution.
