Tensions between Russia and Europe are on the rise as the Kremlin is threatening retaliation over Europe’s decisions on Ukraine aid. The deputy chairman of the Russian Parliament warned that a potential nuclear strike on Paris could be carried out with barely two minutes’ notice. These warnings coincided with Europe’s plan to divert interest from frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine.

Amid rumors of NATO missile placement and French President Emmanuel Macron’s troop deployment suggestion, anxiety is mounting in Europe. Russia has vowed to target any French troops entering Ukraine, and has declared itself for the first time to be “at war” in Ukraine. EU leaders are emphasizing the importance of strengthening Europe’s defensive capabilities, while some are distancing themselves from Mr. Macron’s statements.
