Michael O’Leary, the CEO of ultra-low-cost Irish airline Ryanair, was hit in the face by two cream cakes thrown by female environmental activists in Brussels, Belgium, on Sept. 7. Mr. O’Leary claimed to be holding a one-man press conference outside the European Commission’s headquarters in Brussels when the activists struck. He said he was there to hand in a 1.5-million-signature petition against repeated air traffic controllers’ strikes in the EU that he claims are negatively affecting his airline.

One of the protesters was heard to shout “Stop the pollution of the (expletive) planes!” during the incident.

Mr. O’Leary is famous for courting publicity to draw attention to his company and perceived inefficiencies in European air travel.
