A significant number of police officers descended upon San Francisco’s Balboa High School after reports that someone brought a firearm on campus.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that San Francisco police blocked off streets surrounding the high school. Balboa High School and nearby schools went into lockdown on Aug. 30, and officials said it was over an “incident.”

Officials could not determine if a gun was discharged, NBC Bay Area reported.
“An incident has occurred at Balboa HS. #SFPD is on scene. Balboa HS, James Denman MS & Leadership School are on lock down at this time. San Francisco Public Schools tweeted that “students are safe and” and police are investigating. Denman Middle School, Leadership High School, San Miguel Early Education School, and Balboa High are on lockdown, it said.
A school spokesperson told KTVU that the students are on campus in classrooms with the doors locked. “We want to urge parents, although we know you are concerned, to standby until we release further information,” a spokesperson said.
A teacher in one of the high school’s classrooms told the station that everyone is safe and they are “hunkered down” in the room. About 30 students are in the room, KTVU reported.
No other details in the case were immediately available.
