The annual “SantaCon NYC” took place on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Dressed in Santa costumes, groups and groups of people bar crawled the streets of New York after posing for a photo near Penn station, according to Fox News.

Many people participate in the event simply to enjoy the coming of the holidays.

“Everybody’s friends, you don’t have to know each other, you just have a good time, drink. Awesome day, celebrate the holidays,” said Alex Toll, a 6-year long participant.

For others, it’s an opportunity to raise money for charities. Over $400,000 has been raised by SantaCon NYC, according to SantaCon.info.

The website also states that the reason of holding SantaCon is simply “because it’s fun,” it also says that “it’s one of the few chances left for adults to be silly without any kind of agenda.”

It’s not just in New York. Beginning in San Francisco in 1994, SantaCon has grown to an event that takes place in many places around the world. More than 400 events across 51 countries were listed on its page.
