A worker at a Key Biscayne resort was left dangling by a safety harness 12 stories up after his scaffold collapsed Thursday, March 23.

The worker was standing on scaffolding suspended from the top of the 12-story Grand Bay Tower when one end of his supports gave way.

He fell three stories before his safety line stopped him, according to Miami’s WSVN news.

The Miami Fire Rescue technical rescue team was dispatched, and two fire-rescue workers lowered themselves down from the roof to reach the stranded worker. They were then able to rappel with him all the way to the ground.

The whole rescue took about an hour.

The worker, who was apparently uninjured but visibly shaking, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for examination.

There has been no official explanation for why the scaffolding collapsed.
