Scotland pushes harder for independence referendum

Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon again made a case for independence from Great Britain. She spoke at a U.N. conference on women in conflict zones. Even though Scotland rejected independence in 2014, Sturgeon’s party has gained traction since then.

Sturgeon spoke about why now is the right time for another referendum.
“I am a nationalist. Not in the sense that is often ascribed to the word ‘nationalist.’ I believe in countries governing themselves to make the best of what they’ve got but also so that they can be better internationalists as a result. And I suppose in the United Kingdom context just now, one of the things that is the biggest risk to Scotland’s internationalism is our Brexit process that we don’t want to be part of and therefore the ability, if the ability to continue to play a part in the world is enhanced by being an independent country then I would think that actually speaks to the values that you referred to rather than in any way being counter to them.”
