Picture this: you’re sitting on beautiful marble steps looking out into the Adriatic Sea. You feel the breeze in your face, you see the waves hit the sea wall, you smell the salty sea water, and you hear an interesting sound. Some portions of it sound like a familiar song, but you can’t place your finger on what it.
That sound, though indescribable, is from a unique piece of architecture called Morske Orgulje or the Sea Organ.
Built in 2005, the Sea Organ is 230 feet long and features channels carved into the stone which are led to 35 organ pipes. Every time the wind passes through the channels a different sound is produced. This guarantees that no one will hear the same sound twice.
