Sea turtle rescued from ghost net

This strong and courageous sea turtle is both smart and extremely lucky. She swims to a boat and “asks” for the people aboard to help free her, after she gets caught in a ghost net.

Ghost nets are fishing nets been left or lost in the ocean. Since they are nearly invisible in the dim light of the ocean, they can entangle sea creatures such as sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, seabirds, crabs and so on. Because the nets are designed to restrict movement, after being caught in these ghost nets, these sea creatures might suffer from starvation, cuts, infection, and suffocation.

These factors were exactly what this poor sea turtle was coping with. She was exhausted for struggling with a huge bulk of ghost net, part of which was wrapped around her throat and cutting into her flesh.

The turtle was rescued by the kind people on the boat. The sea turtle was most happy to be freed from the mass of net, and have her wounds treated with iodine before being released back into the ocean.
