The Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best has resigned. Her decision comes after the city council voted to defund the department by $4 million.

She says she wants the city to move forward and improve its public safety and she said if she is preventing this, she’s ready to step aside. Her resignation takes effect Sept. 2.
