Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, at the State Department on Thursday, March 23.

Both men expressed their nations’ strong commitment to continue to cooperate to eliminate ISIS.

“I believe that no two countries are working so closely in fighting terrorism, and in particular ISIS, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States,” al-Jubeir told the assembled press corps.

“The conference that the secretary hosted in Washington yesterday was a huge success in reinforcing the determination of the civilized world to take on this evil and to defeat it properly,” he said.

The meeting came one day after Tillerson addressed a meeting of representatives of 68 nations all pledged to combat the extremist terrorist group.

“I think as you saw from our meeting yesterday on the coalition to defeat ISIS, there is unanimity around the effort to defeat ISIS, not just on the battlefield, but also off the battlefield and around the world,” Tillerson said.

ISIS has been losing territory in Iraq and Syria thanks to coalition efforts.
