Selena Gomez has just been dethroned as the most followed woman on Instagram and second most followed user.

The “Wolves” singer is now the second most followed woman on Instagram with 146,304,744 followers. The new queen of Instagram is “Sweetener” singer Ariana Grande, who has 146,394,861 followers and counting. That’s a difference of 90,117 followers.

One difference between the two singers is that Grande has been posting daily, if not multiple times per day, as well as using her platform to promote new projects and albums. She also just recently claimed all three top slots on the Billboard 100, a feat last accomplished by the Beatles in 1964.

With her post output, Grande has increased her followers by 13 million since last October, according to Elle.

In contrast, Gomez has been mostly off the platform. The singer has taken several breaks from social media to deal with mental health.

“She isn’t going to be posting much on social media because she is more aware of how social takes a toll on her mental health, but she will be updating her fans once in a while,” the source told E!.

On Sept. 23, Gomez announced she would be “taking a social media break. Again.” She added, “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given.”

In her first post back, the singer reflected on her time away. “It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support.” “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges, which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

This isn’t the first time Gomez has been dethroned from Instagram. In October 2018, Portuguese professional soccer player Christiano Ronaldo became the most followed person on Instagram. Ronaldo is still the most followed on Instagram with a whopping 155,952,607 followers.

However, despite getting dethroned as most followed woman and person, Gomez did set a personal record earlier this month.

Her post sharing photos from her friend’s bachelorette party are now her most liked Instagram post, getting over 11.8 million likes in just 19 hours. It now has over 13.9 likes.
