At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) leveled fierce criticism at Sarah French Russell, a nominee to be United States district judge for the District of Connecticut, over a controversial letter Ms. Russell allegedly signed in 2020 after the COVID-19 outbreak, which called for the release of prisoners, a moratorium on new admissions into jails, and the release of illegal immigrants in Connecticut. “This letter is actually quite extreme,” Mr. Cruz said.
