At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on “Social Media and the Teen Mental Health Crisis” on Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) questioned former Meta engineer Arturo Béjar about the child sex abuse materials that can be accessed on the company’s social media platforms. He accused Meta of censoring “First Amendment-protected speech” instead of protecting children against “pedophile” content creators.
