At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on “Social Media and the Teen Mental Health Crisis” on Tuesday, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) questioned former Meta engineer Arturo Béjar on the role social media platforms are playing for young people.

“Isn’t it a fact that … much of social media has become a cesspool of snark?” Mr. Kennedy asked.

In the context of his questions on the effects of social media, Mr. Kennedy also said that he was looking forward to the Senate establishing a new rule to allow members who have enough votes to pass bills and to bring them to the floor “no matter who doesn’t want it.”
