Shareholder Demands ‘Communist China Audit’ of Merck Amid Likely Risks From Geopolitical Fallout

Merck shareholder the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) organization has presented a “Communist China Audit” proposal to the company. This comes as pharmaceutical company Merck’s business in China has grown rapidly in the past few years. The company rejected the proposal saying it has already reported the relevant information to the SEC, but Paul Chesser at NLPC tells NTD that the organization needs more information and wants to know what would happen to Merck if China invaded Taiwan.

Chesser also pointed out that Merck has issued rhetoric around Black Lives Matter, saying the United States should hold its police accountable, yet it is doing business in a country where human rights atrocities including genocide, according to the U.S. State Department, are taking place.
