Shen Yun Performing Arts wrapped up its performances in Mesa, Arizona, on March 22.
Retired ballet instructor Mary Lea and her friend, Bruce Heath, attended the show at the Ikeda Theater. Both praised the show for its spectacular display of technique in dance and choreography.
“Thank heavens I got here. The technical expertise is just unequal by anything I’ve seen. Wonderful,” said Lea.
“The energy is just exploding right off the stage. It is so powerful. But it goes together with music, with the choreography, with the costumes, I mean altogether, it’s really a performance unequalled.”
Lea thought the show succeeded in presenting the 5,000 years of Chinese culture on stage.
“It’s a very exciting way to bring it to the American public in a way that they will really appreciate and really understand. Everybody in the audience is just very excited,” she said.
“Having the live musicians is really wonderful,” she continued.
Lea and Heath had bought tickets during Christmas last year, and drove across state lines to attend the sold out performance. Heath is looking forward to telling friends about the experience.
“I’ll brag and say you should have been here because you missed a great opportunity, because I came down from Utah to see this show,” said Heath, a retired economist, describing the show as “spectacular.”
Lea said she will remember the performance for a long time.
“The carriage of the performers, the way they project from the stage, the perfection of their movements. They’re just so perfectly together. It’ll be playing in my mind for a very long time,” she said.
“The dancers are so finely trained and the choreography is just beautiful. The costuming, the sets, the lighting, I mean all in all, it just makes a wonderful, wonderful evening. Unforgettable.”
Shen Yun will be performing next in Santa Barbara, California, and Burlington, Vermont.
