Shen Yun Shows Taoyuan Mayor the Rich Cultural Connotations of China

Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra was received by two packed houses and standing ovations at Zhongli Arts Hall in Taoyuan, Taiwan on Sept. 22. Among those who turned out for the performance was Cheng Wen-tsan, the mayor of the city.

“I think Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra is the most inspiring orchestra that has performed in Taiwan,” said Cheng Wen-tsan. “It blends Chinese and Western musical instruments and styles. It is rich in Chinese culture, even those who have never received professional training can enjoy the music. I think that is something remarkable.”

This is Cheng Wen-tsan’s second time to see Shen Yun, and he said it was just as impressed.

“Though I had a very tight schedule during this Mid-Autumn Festival, I still managed to come,” he said. “Whenever Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra performs in Taoyuan, it is nearly always greeted by a full house. In fact, every year I feel different emotions when I attend Shen Yun.”

According to its website, the symphony orchestra is a part of Shen Yun Performing Arts. It began to independently tour cities in both the United States and Canada since 2012, and started its Asia tour in 2016.

“This is a performance rich in cultural connotations. Seeing Taoyuan City residents enjoying the Shen Yun music so much, I hope that Shen Yun won’t forget to visit Taoyuan each year.” Cheng Wen-tsan added.
