For about two hours, the audience at the Deutsche Oper Berlin took a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture on Sunday, March 17, as Shen Yun Performing Arts took the stage to present its classical Chinese dance and musical performances.

Jadwiga Chmielowska, a columnist who is also a social and political activist, was astounded that the performance not only touched on historical times, but also brought the audience back to the present.

“It was a beautiful symphony of colors and gorgeous dances,” said Chmielowska. “The audience was so astonished that they pressed themselves into their seats expressing their high degree of attention to listen to the music while enjoying the dance. The show leads us into a journey of time ranging from different dynasties for thousands of years ago or hundreds of years ago, all the way to our present where we could see how good and honest people are persecuted for their faith such as the Falun Dafa practitioners.”

According to its website, Shen Yun portrays, via song, dance, and dance-based storytelling, a culture deeply-rooted in belief in the divine. China indeed was once known as the land of the divine. The teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism have been passed down for millennia and influenced Chinese people’s conduct and thinking for generation upon generation until it was nearly destroyed by the communist regime after it seized power in 1949.

As to Shen Yun’s mission to revive China’s traditional culture, Chmielowska was supportive.

Since what we saw in Shen Yun was the life of thousands or hundreds of years back in time, it was a transmission of tradition. In my opinion, the modernistic art is ugly, disgusting and choking, while Shen Yun shows the traditional beauty with wonderful color and perfectly synchronized dance movement. This is an amazing spectacle. Shen Yun shows the coming generations the real beauty and not the grey ugly destructive communism. The coming generations shall live in a world of wonderful colors and beauty without communism,” she added.

“Later in the show, it was a wonderful song where I could hear the wish for freedom and the wish from our heart to return to heaven,” she said. “The final scene was great where I saw how the specter of Marxism fell apart in the tsunami and the world returned to its normality. Finally, there was a divine message I received, namely, the creator is with us. He looks after us and in a certain situation he rescues us and saves us.”

She found Shen Yun highlighted the universal values that shaped not only China, but also all other civilizations.

“Every person shall watch this spectacle because it is not just a Chinese show but a show of universal values. People should understand what satanism is and how satan has flooded the world,” Chmielowska said. “People don’t understand that in our world satan is communism and that satan shall be rejected. Only by eliminating satan can the people again put themselves in harmony with the universe. The universal values defined by God are vital for all people regardless of their color, races, origin, age nationality. Shen Yun is for every person.”
