New York based Shen Yun Performing Arts had its opening night in Mesa, Arizona, on March 21. Tickets were sold out a month in advance.
Debbie West Coon, a singer who attended the show, was moved to the brink of tears by the stories she saw on stage, presented in dance, music, and song.
“That song was so touching and I was like oh wow, these people, I love you guys. It just made me love China too, [and] the people there,” said Coon.
Coon appreciated the show’s message of compassion and tolerance.
“It just rings to my heart and everyone that I know. I think we all need to have love and tolerance. We all are children of one God and we need to choose over the evil. All of us together just need to come together. One in heart and soul and to strive to be divine. Strive. Just love one another. And the show just brings that out.”
She was also impressed by other elements of the show, such as the costumes, the backdrop, and the live orchestra.
“It’s modest, it’s clean, and very uplifting. I was inspired, and moved, and I’ve learned something here. I’m going to come back next year. Don’t want to miss it.”
Shen Yun will be performing next in Santa Barbara, California, and Burlington, Vermont.
