Barbara Goodstein watched Shen Yun The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, New York, on Jan. 12. She felt very peaceful and calm after the performance.
Goodstein is the CEO of Tiger 21 and an independent board director. She is also the chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and has also held senior leadership positions at Vonage, AXA Equitable, and JP Morgan Chase.
“Fabulous dancing, the music is wonderful,” said Goodstein. “The orchestra is fantastic, the music is beautiful, it felt divine listening to it.”
“It’s inspiring for its grace, and beautiful choreography. The dancers are so graceful and I think that the costumes enhance the dance,” said CEO of C2Group, Lynn Shanahan. “For the number of dancers on stage how beautifully in tune they are, the fact that you feel like they’re floating on the stage, and then when the men come out and do their tumbling, it’s unbelievable you almost feel like they’re on a trampoline.”
“I felt like you’re watching angels on a cloud. I mean it was just really beautiful,” she added.
Shanahan was shocked to know that Shen Yun cannot be seen in China today.
“This must be an incredible performance in China, that people would be loving this in China, so I feel very fortunate then that we’re able to see,” said Shanahan.
For thousands of years, classical Chinese dance was used to express traditional values like reverence for the heavens, emphasizing virtue, and the belief that good is rewarded and that evil is punished.
“It’s 5,000 years of history so it’s just the spectacular story, and I think that it’s very great for Americans to find out more about the Chinese culture that way,” said Robert Scavone, the Principal Owner of Double You Consulting LLC. “Something like this can make you feel very positive when you leave.”
“It’s definitely something you should see,” Goodstein added.
